We are proud to announce that researcher Joana Gaifem has been honored with an “ECCO Grant” worth €80,000 by the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO), a renowned European medical association dedicated to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The award-winning project aims to explore new prevention strategies for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, two conditions that are commonly referred to as IBD.
Through this innovative research, Joana aims to study the influence of changes in glycans expression on the surface of intestinal cells on the composition of intestinal microbiota, and how these changes may contribute to the development of IBD. The project seeks to shed light on the mechanisms behind dysbiosis, a known characteristic of IBD, and ultimately, to pave the way for the development of a novel prophylactic dietary strategy for IBD management.
Congratulations Joana!
