Immunology, Cancer & Glycomedicine

OUTREACH/In the news

Our recent discovery on a novel glycan signature in IgG antibodies, identified years before the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease, has captured widespread attention! Published in Nature Immunology, this research not only reveals an important potential glycobiomarker but also provides new insights into the immune mechanisms driving disease progression. As a result, our work has been featured in several prominent media outlets, including RTP, TVI, Público, and Jornal de Notícias. Explore the links below to see how our research is making an impact in both the scientific community and mainstream media!

GLYCANTRIGGER Horizon Europe project promotional video

This is the promotional video for the GlycanTrigger project—GLYCANS AS MASTER TRIGGERS OF HEALTH TO INTESTINAL INFLAMMATION TRANSITION. The project is funded by the European Union within the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Actions (Grant Agreement no. 101093997). GlycanTrigger aims to investigate when, why, and how changes in gut glycome trigger the transition from health to chronic inflammation. The project started in January 2023 and will be developed over 6 years under the coordination of Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) at the University of Porto, Portugal. The GlycanTrigger consortium includes 9 organizations from 6 different European countries and 1 non-European country (USA). It comprises representatives from medical universities and research centers, clinical centers, one biotechnology company, one consultancy company, and one European patients’ association.
